Australian-based mining recruitment specialist John Davidson & Associates has appointed a new chief for its Indonesian operations in preparation for an anticipated rise in demand for its services in the general south-east Asia region.

Bob Lee is the man who will take on the president director's role at PT JDA-Harsono, the division of the company responsible for developing recruitment strategies for some of Indonesia's
biggest mining operations, including PT Bumi Resources'  Kaltim Prima coal mine,  Newmont Mining's Batu Hijau copper-gold operation and Freeport McMoran's Grasberg copper-gold operation.

JDA business development manager  John Marsh said the prompt appointment of Lee was critical to ensure the company's international division was able to take full advantage of spiking mining and exploration activity in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and surrounding areas.

"The continuing expansion of the Indonesian mining industry is reflected in the worldwide commodity prices that mining companies are now enjoying", Marsh said.

"These conditions will prompt companies to look at expanding their existing operations in order to meet the demand for natural resources. With JDA's strategic placement in Indonesia and PNG, we are now in a prime position to take full advantage of arising opportunities."

According to executive chairman John Davidson, there would not be a long wait for additional opportunities to materialise.

"The shortage of measurable skilled labour worldwide will ensure that the mining industry in countries like Indonesia will experience continued growth", he said. "For us right now, these are exciting places to be."

Since its inception in 1990, JDA claims to have been involved in the recruitment process for every medium-to-large mining or construction project undertaken in Indonesia and PNG.

The company's head office is located in Brisbane, but it has branches in Indonesia and PNG, as well as established joint venture arrangements and company representatives scattered across South-East Asia.
